About Lee's Toy & Hobby

Where Imagination Has Lived Since 1952

For more than seven decades, Lee's Toy & Hobby has been a family-owned destination for toys, hobbies, collectibles, and creative discovery in Southeastern Connecticut.

From a child's first favorite toy to a lifelong passion for model building, we've always believed that a great hobby is about more than what's inside the box. It's about imagination, discovery, and the memories we make along the way.

Our Story: A Family Tradition

The story of Lee's began in 1952, when Sherman and Mickey Marcus, along with Mickey's father, Maurice Hendel, opened Lee's Kiddyland on Bank Street in New London, Connecticut.

The name "Lee's" came from Pete Marcus's grandmother's middle name. Simple, memorable, and welcoming to everyone, it was the perfect fit.

Following the Korean War, Pete's uncle, Chic Hendel, joined the family business. In 1962, Sherman and Mickey expanded by opening a second location in the Groton Shopper's Mart, while Chic continued operating the New London store.

A new chapter began in 1987 when Pete Marcus and his business partner, Richard Spendolini, purchased Lee's Kiddyland. Recognizing the growing enthusiasm for model building and specialty hobbies, they renamed the business Lee's Toy & Hobby.

Today, Pete Marcus and Lisa DeVito Marcus continue the family tradition, welcoming generations of customers who have made Lee's part of their lives.

Step Inside. Step Back in Time.

There's something special about walking into Lee's.

From the familiar toy bins and shelves filled with discoveries to the friendly conversations across the counter, Lee's has preserved the character of a traditional neighborhood toy store.

While toys, technology, and hobbies have evolved over the years, our commitment to personal service and a welcoming atmosphere has never changed.

Some customers remember visiting Lee's as children. Today, they return with their own children and grandchildren, sharing the same sense of wonder they experienced years ago.

That's what makes Lee's more than a store. It's a tradition.
